hi yes hello
Oct. 1st, 2018 04:33 pmI had notes before today but I want to put this out there before Bi Request in less than an hour, so it's long but not quite a Full Month Entry. Who knows if/when I'll fill in the blanks! Heck, who knows who's even reading these!
- Cambridge/Boston is a place and I went there! I really do prefer New York City but it's nice to visit. Two friends of mine are in the midst of a pretty hard breakup; that sucked. But also
rax got married which was chill and great (and I wore a suit!) And the MIT museum was pretty nice, with interesting exhibits on the intersection of science/engineering and art done at least three ways (history of Polaroid cameras; sketches of neurons; playful sculptural "gestural engineering" pieces). It was also Freedom Weekend on Boston Common, so that's a thing. [More on my relationship or lack thereof with cannabis in the future.]
- I joined a gym! Blink Fitness to be precise. I'm very lucky in that the same fairly reasonably priced gym has locations near work and my office. It is somewhat crowded in the evenings but nice to have as a resource. I'm easing into making it a habit, which is hard but worth doing. I'm working on getting stronger, which feels satisfying, and when I do go the followup endorphins are nice. If you're in the area and would like to be my guest/join me we should chat. <3
- Fiasco! I mentioned the Tuesday tabletop meetup group PB and I have been doing last month; for me this month has been all about diving into Fiasco, including learning how to facilitate it. It's relatively "GM-less" - the facilitator doesn't have any more power over the world than anyone else - but exercising the social skills of running a table, making sure the rules are followed, and respecting time has been an interesting take. I tried and horribly failed to GM a D&D 4th Edition campaign in college, so it's been a good emotional boost to successfully run a one shot. It's doubly interesting because the kind of media Fiasco is themed on are not things I love, but I'm pretty cool with being involved in them at the table.
- Dessa! I skipped the meetup once to go to her book signing, which was great and hilarious and she was clearly so nervous but rocking it nonetheless. She riffed and skipped around the segment she read, which is not a thing I generally see in book signings so that's kinda cool. And now I have three books signed to "Kawa", and a picture with her, and that's great. <3 The book itself is interesting - she has fascinating essays about watching her family thrive in their separate hobbies and lives, she pokes into why she's monogamous, she does mental math when bored and anxious on the road. Good stuff.
- Hot Space! PB and I did indeed spend Labor Day walking from my apartment in Woodside to Sunset Park. Specifically, we ended up at Hot Space, a strange and glorious Chinese restaurant that serves whole fish in a chafing dish surrounded by the sauce and toppings of your choice, in a weirdly youthful space with mood lighting and a huge screen of Chinese pop music videos with karaoke lyric captions. I got kinda grumpy halfway through but we persisted, and that's a thing worth noting. I'm definitely less engaged but faster when it's a walk I've done before, which is also a thing worth noting. [I have deeper thoughts on novelty and persistence that I'll have to explore later.]
- Romance updates - it's semi-official that I'm dating someone I've been generally affectionate with in Bi Request for the last while, as she stayed over at my apartment during Bi Visibility Weekend and we connected on lots of things. Having PB out of town for over a week was interesting emotionally, too. [Insert notes on what having others over at the Arena means emotionally and mentally for me.]
- Cool work stuff is afoot. [Project details later.]
- Still spending lots on sprucing up the personal presentation, with all the feelings that comes with. It's still too warm to bind much. Gender is not a thing I think about, which might be an avoidance strategy but WHATEVER.
- Upcoming: RogueCel oh god oh god. My talk isn't ready in the slightest, lolsigh. But whatever, there are many friends I will see and I'm also volunteering a bit for the arcade and it will be nice to see San Francisco again and spend time with a comet of mine.
- I have no idea what the rest of this month entails post-RogueCel but I'll figure it out.
