About me and this journal, in five prompts: (thanks to [personal profile] rosefox for this structure!)

Who: I'm Kawa; my pronouns are they/them or she/her, with slight preference to the former. I live alone, but other folks who may be mentioned here are my partners and comets (generally by first name or first initial, except for the anonymized-for-privacy PartnerBeast [he/him], who has a non-trivial invested-time-based head start on other partners), various friends, and the occasional member of my family of origin.

What: I'm pansexual[0], vaguely nonbinary[1], solo polyamorous[2], and neurodivergent[3]. I'm omnivorous but have major food allergies, and enjoy learning about food/cooking to overcompensate for such. I'm Filipino-American, but if you ask me where I'm from, I'll say New York City; if you ask 'but where really?', I'll say Queens, and dig further from there.

My day job is making sense of statistics for a major hospital system. I enjoy it, but I think my not-work events and obligations are much more interesting: a twice a month bisexual+ support group called BiRequest; a once a month poly+ happy hour; a weekly story/indie tabletop RP group; investing in partnerships and friendships; exploring New York City; joyful, low-stress domesticity including cooking, baking, and interior design; reading non-fiction somewhat widely on the Internet; plus the occasional toe-dip into fandom[4].

Where: A one bedroom apartment in Woodside, New York; yes, the district Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez represents. A cube farm in Midtown East, near Grand Central Station. All over the city in between and beyond.

Formerly (August 2006-December 2011, August 2013-May 2015), (mostly)[5] a hastily built house in Palm Bay, Florida, still owned by my parents, which is now their full time home. My relationship to central Florida is even more fraught than my relationship to my Filipino-ness, if only because I've spent way more time in Florida than I ever have in the Philippines.

I occasionally travel. I've started making an annual trip to the San Francisco Bay area, primarily for Roguelike Celebration. Once every few years I go to Boston. I'd like to leave the US once every other year or so and explore within the US on the alternate years, but we'll see if that shakes out.

Online I use Discord as my chat client of choice (Kawa#7680), use Mastodon as my microblog of choice (at Wandering Shop), and have accounts a bunch of other places that I don't really touch much. I'm shifting my recipe collection to @kawas_recipe_test but it's a work in progress. I am trying to use Twitter and Instagram ([twitter.com profile] kawaiidragoness / [instagram.com profile] kawaiidragoness) somewhat more than I have in the past but am very bad at actually checking my timelines.

When: I am at least 31 years old as long as you are reading this. (Who knows when I'll it update again!)

I check social media at work more than I probably should.

Why: I primarily post on this Dreamwidth to collect a record of myself and my thoughts. My ex-fannishness and open-source-friendly background makes me prefer Dreamwidth's norms over many others. I like peeks in other people's lives, hoping for understanding of myself and the world by looking at and through other people.

My personal raison d'etre: I seek a balance of new experience and well-worn comfort; I hope my variety of experiences can help others in ways large and small; I seek kindness in others and myself.

Reading, access, and comment policy:

I'm relatively open to friending others who friend me. Since this is so much real life rambling, I take no hard feelings about the lack of comments or non-reciprocal subscriptions. Almost nothing is behind access list.

I welcome comments of any length unless otherwise stated in the post.

Please let me know before you link to posts, public or private. Not to stop you, just want to know where things are going!

Footnotes, mostly definitions:

[0] I romantically and sexually like people, statistically independent of their gender identity and presentation. I identify in the Generalized Bisexual Caucus in terms of queer+ community, but the flags flown at home and on my backpack are pansexual.

[1] AFAB without hormones or surgeries and no plans/desires for either. I feel closer to "nonbinary person" than "sometimes masculine-presenting woman" when those are my options. (And I'm definitely not a trans man.) 'Femme enby' has been feeling right as a general label lately, 'genderfluid' also works. My personal style prioritizes elegance, simplicity, practicality, and build quality. The state of the fashion industry tends to make this translate to masculine-of-center when it's not hot enough to wear skirts without leggings, but I'm also short and curvy (and look good with a full face of makeup and long painted nails!) so I make do best I can from both sides of the aisle.

[2] My relationships happen in parallel, but I live alone and make my own decisions on my time and money (though informed by partners' desires and needs). Again, the PartnerBeast has some time and energy invested in me ahead of anyone else currently dating me. Some partners don't live in public transit range and don't have short-term plans (or even long-term plans) of ever doing so; those are my comets.

[3] Not officially diagnosed, but 'have you researched autism?' has been brought up by three professionals now during therapeutic context, so I roll with it.

[4] Despite the username I'm not very fannish anymore, but I enjoy seeing the joy others have in fandom, and still occasionally follow a few fandoms I care about. Those fandoms are European football/soccer, particularly FC Bayern Munich; indie video games, mostly in the 'classical roguelike' tradition; and anime/manga, with various idiosyncratic tastes. Fanfic I wrote in the past is mostly at [livejournal.com profile] kawaiimae, [livejournal.com profile] fandomonymous, and [archiveofourown.org profile] fandomonymous. I also used to stream on Twitch and made Let's Plays, which are at [youtube.com profile] kawaiidragoness.

[5] May - November 2014 I was splitting time between Palm Bay and Tampa, but I really don't like thinking about that time in my life.
