For those who don't know, the original American release of Card Captor Sakura was extremely edited - episodes were cut, names were changed, and the like. In particular, they also worked hard to tone down the intensity of some of the relationships shown in the series.
It's rather telling that even with that, I saw Tomoyo for what she was - well, let me rephrase that, for who she loved - from the beginning.
I saw what she saw in Sakura - a bright, beautiful, fascinating girl, capable of wonderful things; a girl worthy of putting on a pedestal, of draping in beautiful things, of watching from afar with joy and affection. I saw, too, that sometimes a girl longed for more than friendship, even from another girl. In Tomoyo's dedication, I saw that falling for a girl could be a real possibility, that there really were people who felt those things.
A year or two later, I had transferred again, to a school dedicated to the growth and progress of bright young women. I still struggled with making friends, though I did make a small handful, underclassmen with similar interests.
And when I woke up one morning from a heady and intense dream involving one of them, I realized immediately what it was and what it meant - all thanks to Tomoyo, who I'm sure deep in her heart felt similar things about her Sakura. Like Tomoyo, my feelings at the time weren't reciprocated - but that's okay. I still thank her for teaching me something important about myself and my true nature, and for showing what dedication and love really is.

PS: I know, I know, I said no Ghost in the Shell post until #100, but can I just quickly plug this LEGO CUUSOO project? MOTORIZED TACHIKOMA OMG YES PLEASE
